Perfume-creator and co-founder of ALTRA, which calls itself the UK's only all-natural haute perfume house.
The story
Beckielou Brown grew up in a bohemian family; her mother's classic sandalwood perfume on her pillow meant home. At fifteen she travelled to India for the first time and smelled real sandalwood, still her favourite note, along with orris, which she calls the most addictive. She co-founded ALTRA with her lifelong friend Bridget Plant.
The work
She creates every ALTRA perfume, starting from a feeling and building a moodboard before the formula. The house follows a "Profuture" ethos, with refillable bottles, and is organised in three collections: Skin Scents, Altra Intense and Future Florals. Her personal choice is Altra Skin; she calls Jasmin XXX her most evocative work.
