David-Lev Jipa-Slivinschi
Ataraxia
The self-taught Bucharest perfume-maker behind Toskovat', and the nose of two Ataraxia perfumes.
The story
David-Lev Jipa-Slivinschi was born in Bucharest and has Russian and Ukrainian heritage. He worked as a filmmaker and screenwriter until the COVID period pushed him towards perfume. He is self-taught and prefers not to call himself a perfumer.
The work
He founded Toskovat' in 2022. The name is the Russian verb toskovat', to yearn or long for something deeply, close in spirit to the Romanian dor. The house makes dark "extraits de mémoire", each starting from a specific memory, and has been featured in Vogue UK and The Wall Street Journal. His Principalities for Cæleste, with creative director Stefan Radut, won the 2025 Art and Olfaction Newcomer Award. For Ataraxia he composed Vestibule and Amaretto Jazz in the Melting Room (2024), and he has also worked for Adi Ale Van and Utopic (Black Valley, 2025). The Art and Olfaction Awards, run by the Institute for Art and Olfaction in Los Angeles, are among the main international prizes for independent and artisan perfumery.
On Parfumo & Fragrantica
Fragrantica lists 36 of his perfumes, 27 of them for Toskovat'.
At Scentorium
Vestibule and Amaretto Jazz in the Melting Room, his two perfumes for Ataraxia. Both date from 2024. If you know Toskovat', they show how his style reads in a different house.
